The beautiful and imposing Château de la Peyrade was built at the end of the 18th Century and was, until 1849, the home of the Viscomte de Peyrade and is now the focal point of a ninety-five acre estate owned by the Pastourel family. They are generally acknowledged to produce a finer wine than most in the Appellation of Muscat de Frontignan, in Languedoc, between Montpelier and Sète. A delicate, refreshing, golden wine made from Muscat Blanc à Petit Grains. From the first whiff of the bouquet, one is deep in the world of the Muscat grape and surrounded by an intense flowery fragrance. The grape flavour is ever present on the palate and blends superbly with the rich liqueur-like alcohol. This is a gentle, sweet Vin Doux Naturel and it is the Muscat that was immortalised by Rabelais, a wine that Popes and Kings considered to be the elixir of life.
